Crossroads Village

So, today the hubby and I decided we needed to get outta dodge and go do something! We opted for spending the day and Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint. I had never been there and he hadn't been since he was little, so we were excited! And, it was well worth the trip!
Crossroads Village is a entire historical village, complete with working sawmill, cider mill, print shop, broom maker, blacksmith and more. There is a schoolhouse, doctor's office, general store, etc. There were also crafts and artisan demos throughout the day. We happened to arrive on a weekend that they did a Civil War battle reenactment, so that was pretty cool too.

Included in the price of admission (which was $15 each) was a 40 minute ride on the Huckleberry Railroad, a historic train that chugs around the Genesee Recreation Area and Mott Lake, and a 30 minute ride on the Genesee Belle, a paddlewheel riverboat, on Mott Lake. It was worth every penny, and even the food was inexpensive and yummy..not typical of any park! See all the pix from the trip here: http://community.webshots.com/album/551789909vuPtdR.
After we left Crossroads Village, we decided to go get some MORE walking in and went to For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum. That was really nice too, and a great ending to the day. We got some excellent pictures, there too, so view those here: http://community.webshots.com/album/551789943KKOkwS
. We even got nose to nose with some big snappers, as you can see in the photos! It was a great day, and I think we're going to try and do more of this type of thing this summer. Already planning for next weekend...
